Choosing a name that pays homage to Kansas City’s
musical tradition, 12th Street began performing in August of 1993.
A unique blend of voices, this quartet has entertained numerous audiences
and participated in competition at both the local and international
level. In 1994, 12th Street Rag became Central States District Quartet
Champions, and through International Competition has placed as high
as 11th in the world! In addition, this quartet was named the 2003
Central States District Barbershopper of the Year for their involvement
with various music camps, and working with junior high and high school
youth.
Quartet members include brothers MARK and JOHN FORTINO, singing
lead and baritone, respectively, from Kansas City. Tenor, MICAH JEPPESEN
is from Omaha, Nebraska and singing bass, is BARRY MOORE from St.
Louis, Missouri. John and Mark sang with the 1984 Central States
District Novice Quartet Champs, After Class, in their native Joplin,
Missouri, and Micah has sung with other foursomes including the 1994
Central States District Novice Champs, Swing Street. Barry Moore
is a two time district quartet champion bass. His first championship
was with Gateway City Slickers in 1987. Ten years later in 1997 he
won his second district championship with The EIB Quartet. John is
an accomplished musician and arranges many of the songs for 12th
Street Rag including 8 of the 13 songs on "Songs From The Street" and
4 of the 10 songs on “Our Souls Rejoice!”.
12th Street has moved audiences for years with sacred selections
such as Little Altar Boy or Celebrate The Child! They recently produced
a CD of sacred selections entitled Our Souls Rejoice! The recording
was awarded Runner Up Best Barbershop Album of the Year by the Contemporary
A Cappella Society of America.
